Writing
Throughout this course I have learned to write in a variety styles for a general audience including personal narratives and original reporting . I have learned how to use my voice to portray emotions in my mental health article. I can control my voice and style to write both in both opinion and objective journalistic styles. I can generate interesting and relevant writing ideas that can find an audience and contribute significantly to topics of contemporary interest. I can research and evaluate the credibility of sources, and I can present information in an original way that respects and gives credit to the work of others.
Working online
I can find and select images that convey the topic and tone of my writing in a way that understands and respects copyright and fair use. I have also used an original image that I thought portrayed the emotions of my mental health article.
Leaked EA documents state that the company is driving players toward FIFA’s loot boxes, which have been linked to gambling
A 54 page document was leaked from EA’s sports division in Burnaby, BC.The document discusses the addition of loot boxes in a game mode in FIFA 21 that is actively driving players to spend more money. The loot boxes are linked to gambling due to their addictive qualities. “The features of a loot box are similar to a slot machine,” said Keith Whyte, executive director of the U.S. National Council on Problem Gaming.
Loot boxes are items that can be opened in game that give you randomized loot, which includes better teammates and other in-game advantages. They can be bought with real life money or in-game money, in which you earn by “grinding” the game. Grinding means playing the game in a simple, repetitive way to gain items or points, until it is longer fun.
EA has publicly denied any rumours that loot boxes are linked to gambling because you can play the game without spending a dime.Still, there is nothing that can be done according to the gaming insider.”We can’t really do anything about it because at the end of the day, [the] company is trying to make money and satisfy investors.”

Mexico subway collapse kills at least 23
Mexico City firefighters and rescue personnel work to recover victims from a subway car that fell after a section of an elevated line collapsed on Monday night. The collapse sent a train plunging toward a road, trapping at least one car under rubble. At least 23 people are reported dead and about 70 are injured, city officials said.

Trudeau visits Africa in bid for UN Security Council
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is in Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia, to win a seat in the United Nations Security Council. In Addis Ababa, Trudeau will attend the African Union meeting, which will determine if Canada will win a seat in the Security Council.
Trudeau is the first Canadian Prime Minister ever to attend the African Union meeting.
Africa has 54 out of the 193 votes needed to decide who will win a non-permanent seat in the Security Council. Canada is running against Norway and Ireland to win 2 non-permanent seats in the Security Council that will both last 2 years.
In Ethiopia, Trudeau will meet directly with a handful of the 54 African leaders to discuss how their votes at the UN Security Council election will determine if Canada or another country will win a seat in the Security Council and the importance of Canada winning a seat.
Three of Trudeau’s cabinet ministers are travelling with him. Trudeau invited Toronto Raptors President Masai Ujiri to join him on his trip as well. Before Trudeau invited Ujiri to join him, Ujiri had planned to go to Africa to promote his foundation, Giants Of Africa. Giants of Africa is a foundation that uses basketball to educate and connect with African youth.
Trudeau has been to Africa 3 times as Prime Minister before, but this is his first time in Ethiopia and the city of Addis Ababa. Trudeau had planned to go to the African Union meeting in 2019 but was unable to due to certain complications.
In 2010 Canada tried to win a seat in the Security Council but failed to do so. To win a seat in the UN Security Council, Canada may have to change its position in reforming the council it seeks to join.

This is what you should know about plagiarism
Plagiarism is the art of stealing someone’s work and using it as your own. You can plagiarize in many different ways. The most common way to plagiarize is to copy and paste something from a website and present it as your own work. I didn’t know this before but you can plagiarize yourself. If you reuse something from a previous assignment that you wrote, it is still considered plagiarism because you’re using an idea that you have already used.
In high schools and post-secondary schools plagiarism is very serious. If you plagiarize and you’re caught in high school there is a possibility that you can get suspended. You may also get a call home. In universities or colleges it is a lot more serious. You will get expelled if you are caught plagiarizing.
Avoiding plagiarism all together is the best option for everyone. When writing a paper you have to think of your own sentences and not just copy a sentence and change up a few words. When you do not understand what a source is trying to tell you, you have two options. You can read the article again and search up words you do not know or you can simply move on to the next source and gather new ideas for the paper you’re writing.

To help you get started, here are a few questions:
- Why are you blogging publicly, rather than keeping a personal journal?
- What topics do you think you’ll write about?
- Who would you love to connect with via your blog?
- If you blog successfully throughout the next year, what would you hope to have accomplished?
You’re not locked into any of this; one of the wonderful things about blogs is how they constantly evolve as we learn, grow, and interact with one another — but it’s good to know where and why you started, and articulating your goals may just give you a few other post ideas.
Can’t think how to get started? Just write the first thing that pops into your head. Anne Lamott, author of a book on writing we love, says that you need to give yourself permission to write a “crappy first draft”. Anne makes a great point — just start writing, and worry about editing it later.
When you’re ready to publish, give your post three to five tags that describe your blog’s focus — writing, photography, fiction, parenting, food, cars, movies, sports, whatever. These tags will help others who care about your topics find you in the Reader. Make sure one of the tags is “zerotohero,” so other new bloggers can find you, too.
